LOL! If you were the Cheif Engineer for Mitsubishi you would probobly be agreeing with me.

Here in NZ 75% of the cars on our roads are used Japanese imports.
About 10% are new Japanese cars, and the rest come from Europe and Australia.

We know a lot about Japanese cars, and since we have some of the lowest quality fuel in the world we also know a lot about how they deal with it.

No 1. The japanese do use cat convertors so i dont know where u got that from.
And 2. I dont think any of u guys have ever been in an evo. If the 8 doesnt have any of those things ie AYC etc etc then it is only because the heads of Mitsubishi US have decided not to include them which is totally BS because those things make the car what it is.
Japanese use 100 RON fuel. And as far as I know u guys use 94 MON which is about 98-99 RON. So there would be no diff in performance from using 100 ron (maybe like 1HP or something).
No reason why u cant get exactly the same as japs. And the evo7 cost $45K AUS in japan which is around $22K US. SO it is all possible.

The Real Deal

Go on the mitsubishi web site they have the new EVO VIII. It has 271 HP and 273 lb-ft torque. Mfg. 0-60 under 5 seconds. Reason for less hp, only about 4, smaller intercooler. Also no AYC or ACD because of cost. There you go eat it all up

Also keep in mind it's going to be scraping the edges of emissions laws. I've read that's part of the reason for the slight change in HP (which would be changed just the same if you mod the car by putting in a less restrictive exhaust or pretty much any other expected mod).
