Unhappy 82 280ZX (95k miles) - Clutch problem?

My clutch pedal has a lot of play all of a sudden, may be associated with cool weather because I have had this happen before but it seemed to go away during the summer. Now, there is lots of play where you press the pedal with no resistance nor does it return to the proper position. If you pump it several times, it seems to work better. I have difficulty getting the car in reverse, if I play with it a bit, I can get it in gear but it is a trick. No problems in the forward gears.
Any ideas on first steps to diagnose the problem? Would like to have a handle on whether I can tackle it myself or at least have some knowledge about it before taking it to a shop. Please advise.......

Your clutch cylender or slave is faulty
Replace both they are the same age
and neither are expencive. One at a
time if you have to but get help in
identifying which has failed

Ok, thanks. I read something in another message either in this forum or another similar one that made me suspect the same. Thanks for responding. Another opinion always helps.
