1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
Hello,
here are my newest "lunch time" project. Its is a Ferrari 512M from 1970 & 71. At this time the Ferrari was the biggest challenger of the Porsche 917's . Unfortunately Ferrari was not able to get to the same level as Porsche did.The whole car was to heavy compared to the same power from Porsche. The Ferrari got about 100kg more than the 917! This story tells the same difference from the MFH Porsche 917 to this Resin. The whole MFH Porsche, with all those perfect metal parts, got less weight than the resin body & chassis from the Ferrari! I bought this body 6 chassis from a ebay seller. He only offers these two parts. After the body arrives i know where he get it from. The heavy and hard as iron resin comes from Mexico. Its the body and chassis from CMM. Here are the first pics. Only two parts are bought. The panels lines are made from hand.A very old man seams to do that. With a very restless hand. In the mean time i mailed a friend who is addicted to Ferrari in 1/12 scale. He got an MG Models Italy kit of the Ferrari 512 S. I ask him if i can copy his wheels and the seats from his kit.....No problem! So i made a copy from his parts. The Italian parts are not perfect, but much better than the Mexican ones for sure! So here are the last pics. At the end i hope i get a nice curbside model in my cabinet. But its a long way to this goal. Here you can see my next step. I need to reshape the chassis to the body. Thats all for now. Thanks for watching! regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
Time to digging out a old project.
The Ferrari is back from the bench and i started to sand out the fender for a better fit of the tires. The shape of the rear fenders have to be re-created. Body and chassis are put together with 2k putty and a release agent. After the putty was dry i could split both parts and got a perfect fit from both halfs. This will help to find the best position for the tires on the chassis. When i started this project i wanted to make a Scuderia Fillipinetti version. But now i changed my mind and want to make a Sunoco Version in blue. Decals are arrived today. Thanks for watching! regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
Just made the "suspension" from the Ferrari.
Its not very fragile, more than a suspension from a lorry. But i read somewhere the old Ferrari prototypes got very nice looking engines, but the rest of the car was more than a tractor. I think i am very near to the original. Some spare parts from a Ferrari 312t are on the way.I want to use these parts to made a better looking suspension who can be seen from the back. Today i made some changes to the body and began to create the air scoop on the rear hood. regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
Progress with the 512M.
After viewing some more pics i saw a big mistake at the back of the car. The wheels are much too small. So i changed it and now they are big enough for Ferrari V12 power. Looks much better now. The windows are done.I just used some from the Porsche 956.Worked fine. Mesh for the wheel air outtakes are made. The shape from the rear wheel arches are changed to the right look. Here the first version. The Ferrari got lots of small rivets at the side. So i bought this Archer transfer rivets. Somebody worked with it so far? Any tips or hints for me? I thought i put it onto the body just before i apply the color paint? Or should i apply it and than a shot of primer before the color painting? regards Christian |

Re: 1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
After the first try with yellow color on grey primer was not good,i try over white base coat.
Much better result. The tires need some repaint, but nothing big. First part of Sunoco paint is done. Next will be the rivets followed by the blue color. Thanks! |

Re: 1/12 scale Ferrari 512M
Sunoco colors are done.
I am very pleased with the result. The blue and yellow are Zero Paints and worked very well. The archer rivets worked also very well. They are maybe a little bit too small. But looks good i think. Will need some aluminum color for the chassis under the doors, but first i apply the clear coat and decals next. thanks Christian |
