Project Car?

After doing some web browsing in search of a project car for my dad and I, I came across this beat up 1974 260Z. I've seen a Datsun 510 with a SR20DET swap, my question is if a SR would be possible in a 260Z, if yes then this car will become a modified ride or if not it will become strictly a restoration project. If anyone can help me out, it will be much appreciated.

can be done and has been done to 240Z's many time...260Z is basically the same as a 240Z with minor difference so i see no problem.

might want to further invesitgate the RB20DET swap...it seems to be a little easier.

actually right now, RB20DET front clips are running alot cheaper than SR20DET swaps. with the whole drift/240s craze going on...it is getting harder and harder to source SR's even over in Japan. so your paying alot more than you should be for something this isnt even in good condition.

I agree with using the RB not the SR. And on using the 260z as a full resto... uggg. I got my 260 and thought i was going to do a full resto on it, till i learned about them. They were lemons right from the factory. My thinking was, well since they are so rare they must be good. NOPE! they are rare becuase they were so bad. Anyways I like the idea of doing the RB swap. Let me know how it goes. You should have no problem bolting it up. You should use the tranny the comes in the z not the rb if you wanna save money. They will bolt right up. But try to get the skyline lsd rear diff tho. I was going to do this swap but opted for the sbc350 instead cause i found a complete runner for $200. cant beat that. gl

you dont want to go that far down with displacement, get balls and put an rb25, rb26, rb30det in it. If I saw a 260 with a SR I would laugh and walk away. Leave the SR for the clowns trying to turn their passenger car into a sports car. If you do go ahead with the SR swap, get the fart muffler, and spray-can some stripes on it to complete the effect.

The carbs are not user freindly so swap them out, but the rest of the 260z is superior to a 240z. Hotter cam, stroked 240 motor, front and rear sway bars, wiper delay, fold forward seats, beefier steering rack, controls laid out with more sense, electronic dizzy not points, just to name a few. If the 260z is a lemon then a 240z must be a turd. Or maybe you were looking at a b210.

And 4 years from now a guy will be reading that nodding his head, grinning. And that makes my 15 seconds golden compared 15 seconds pointing out the obvious. Maybe I can read, maybe all you can do is read and cannot go further beyond that.

Re: Project Car?

Zxdriver, let it go, your weak philosophy and thin attempt at getting in the last word should be dropped.

This is a dead thread, 4 years. Stop being a necrophiliac. And just let it go. The answer was found 4 years ago, no need to attempt to answer it again.
