Re: eratic oil pressure 5.2 ltr helppp!!!
Are your lifters ticking after the oil pressure drops to zero?
How long since the last oil change? What weight oil are you running?

Re: eratic oil pressure 5.2 ltr helppp!!!
Lifters have begun to tick at start up and oil pressure now won't move from 0. I had just a small amount of sludge come out of the breather. I did an oil change as soon as it happned and before that it only had about 1000 miles. It's got a mopar oil filter. No more sludge and when I did the oil change the oil had no traces of coolent. That all started after a new plenum gasket was put on. Then I wanted to be safe so I had a diffrent mechanic put another new one and and same story. I use 10w-30 non synthetic. This truck is my daily so needs to be fixed I just don't know what the cause is.

Re: eratic oil pressure 5.2 ltr helppp!!!
So here's the speel. My plenum gasket blew out and decided to replace it myself. My truck is a 1999 ram 1500 with the 5.2. After I put it all together I started her up and it ran good if not better than ever. For a day. Then I was driving around and my oil pressure dropped to 0 only in the range of 2 grand on the tac. Above or below it go up to normal pressure. So I parked it popped the hood and noticed a lot of white sludge in the valve cover breather. So I checked my work and a few blots where loose to the intake. So I retorqued them correctly and then it drove fine. Again just for a day. So now I'm a little shaky I replace the sending unit and had a mechanic completely redo all my work. Now after another day or so of driving its stayed at 0 psi and now lifters are noisy. Keep in mind I changed the oil with 10w-30 non synthetic After each operation including new mopar oil filter. No fram. So now I'm at a stand still and two mechanics have no clue why it would do this. I need help for this is my daily driver. I never touched the bottom of the engine and each oil change had no traces of coolent. Please help.

Re: eratic oil pressure 5.2 ltr helppp!!!
Let them connect a mechanical gauge to be sure there is a pressure issue.
Is the oil pump shaft ok? Is the gear on the camshaft turning it through the distributor/camshaft position sensor gear?

Re: eratic oil pressure 5.2 ltr helppp!!!
OK so I'm getting that you DID change the oil when you replaced the plenum gasket?
I'm concerned with white sludge coming out of the breather. It may be time to pull the valve covers and check for sludge...if there is then cleaning time and I'd consider dropping the oil pan and cleaning that as well. With your oil pressure not coming up until 2000rpm, your pickup screen may be partially blocked and if it gets blocked completely that's it for the engine; so while the pan is off make sure the pickup screen is cleaned. I'm curious what OCI (oil change interval) and oil you've been using, and what type driving you generally do, as those can contribute to sludging.
