Possible bad hub?

Hi guys,

First, we have a 99 Alero with the 2.4l engine, trac control and anti lock brakes.

I've been researching this a little but I'm looking for your input. I think BOTH front hubs on our Alero may have gone at the same time. Here's the scenario, for a while the Trac Off light would come on occasionally and eventually it stayed on. Also the ABS light started coming on occasionally and now is also on all the time.

In addition we have humming coming from what sounds like BOTH front wheels. The faster we go, the louder it gets. It doesn't quiet when we corner, although I noticed turning right does change the tone of the hum a little. It sounds like I'm running aggressive mud tires or something.

Am I right to assume both Hub assemblies are bad? It looks like I have to replace the hub assembly with sensor to correct my problems if I'm right.

Thanks for your input, any help is appreciated!!

~Jason

Welcome to AF.

You realy need to get it scanned with an ABS capable scan tool to find out which or if both are bad, or why your service light are on.
Though, if they are both growling then they are most likly bad.

Usualy best to replace them in pairs anyway.

Might jack up your car with the wheel you thinks making the noise , spin the wheel a few times and see if it makes any of the offending noises. See if it has and play in the wheel also.

Re: Possible bad hub?

Just an FYI, I just went down to Bond Auto in town and got the hub assembly with sensor for $81. I got both sides. Now I just have to find time to change them
