lowering a civic

ok, no one in the 6th gen forums knows jack about lowering a civic obviously, which i dont understand why... anyways, i heard that when you take the rear struts off of a civic, 92 or newer, that usually, u have to buy a new control arm, because somehow they mend themselves together and you have to torch them apart, which ruins the control arm? sound familar or just a garbage story... i just want to know what im getting into when i put these coilovers on, i just bought them because because my front coil spring are bad and i figured i would kill two birds with one stone, anyways, please let me know, thanks

Re: lowering a civic

What usually happens is lower control arm bolts seize into the bushings. New LCA's are not needed, it's just the quick & easy fix.

Re: lowering a civic

if you bought the cheap coil over sleeves, its not the best choice... but you already got them so oh well... yes the bolts DO get stuck in the bushing, in fact, thats why my car is parked... waiting for a slow family member to take my a arm and press a new bushing in it. i had to take a saws all and cut both sides of the bolt, then grind off the head of it just so i could get it off... it could have been like a 30 min job, but it turned out to be 2+ hours... + a couple days of waiting.... SUCKS!!!

Re: Re: Re: lowering a civic

It doesn't happen in every case but it is common. You can always return the parts if not needed. You will need rear LCA strut bushings & bolts. Don't be cheap with the bolt those are structural & support a lot of weight. If seen case where people use $0.20 bolts from the hardware store and wonder why they broke . . .common sense.
