Re: Buying: 2006 Eclipse GT or 2006 Subaru WRX

mitsubishi pros:

*gets slightly better highway gas mileage (28mpg compared to 26mpg)
*6-speed, instead of 5-speed in the wrx
*more power and torque, but is offset by weighing more (actually has slightly better weight to power ratio, 13.2lbs/hp compared to 13.9lbs/hp)
*more trunk space, and rear seats fold down (they dont in the wrx)

impreza wrx pros:
*AWD over FWD, aka: better grip in terms, and is more impressive to brag about
*can seat 5 people (the eclipse can set ONLY 4) i'm guessing important?
*4 doors instead of 2, easier on the rear passangers, and more legroom in the back
*weighs less, and handles better
*ever so slightly better city gas milage (20mpg compared to 19mpg)

overall, i'd go with the wrx, simply because the power is enough, i would rather 4 doors and the better handling (because i too drive agressively).

but the argument that an awd car handles better in the snow really doesnt seem to hold up to me... if anything, in the snow i'd WANT all the power in the front wheels, so there's even less chance of spinning out because of oversteer. unless i wanna do donuts in an empty parking lot, then power through the rear wheels is desirable.

mitsu is having some problems with manufacturing for their newer models, but the impreza has been around for some good time
Well I guess if you feel its ugly then I wouldnt get it either. But IMO, they both have ample power for his use, will handle well in the snow, and I just feel the Eclipse looks better.

Re: Buying: 2006 Eclipse GT or 2006 Subaru WRX

i like eclipses, i almost bought a 2002 gt, but the ride was very uncomfortable. I just think that the new ones look a little funky. but then again thats what i said about the scion xA, and now i like that car. I also said the same thing about the raider, and a couple of other cars.

id still take the subaru, but then again i prefer big sedans.

awd doesn't handle better in the snow. it's only better in making sure you don't get stuck. in severe snowy/icy conditions, it doesn't matter which wheels get the power because that's not going to help you stop or turn to avoid accidents...it'll only help you go forward better.

not that this has anything to do with what i would get. i would choose the wrx. the eclipse is probably faster in a straight line, but i love hitting the curvy mountain passes by my home, in which case, the wrx owns the eclipse. i also love the convenience of four doors.

if cost matters to you at all though, the eclipse is about $4000 cheaper

If i were you i would get the wrx.Its better than the new eclipse gt and i think you can put good things on it. And also if you see a wrx sti that would be better because its already has a turbo in.
