Help!! Is the timing belt a warranty covered issue?
I have a co-worker who is female and about to have a nervous breakdown because her 2006 Sorento completely quit on her the other day on her way to work...
She had it towed to dealer and they still dont know what is wrong and she doesnt have the money to pay for a new timing belt if that is what it needs. They told her they got it started and pulled into service bay but that they wouldnt be sure if it was the belt or something else until they broke into it... I wasnt aware you could start a car if belt was bad but I am not a expert... Now I was in the car business for a few years till this economy turned to poop and I know that is standard bs line I have heard myself....these days I know they dont necessarily have to break down the motor to figure things out....but anyhow Car has 55K and she told me it has 100K drivetrain warranty and 60K basic...she bought the suv new.... In a nutshell....I need to know fast if the warranty covers this or not.... thanks in advance Mike |

Re: Help!! Is the timing belt a warranty covered issue?
When a timing belt fails completely the vehicle will not start. If it skips a couple of teeth it still may not start or it may start and run poorly.
If the belt broke before the recommended service interval than KIA will likely cover. Some manufacturers require the regular maintenance schedule be followed in order for any warranty work to be done.

Re: Help!! Is the timing belt a warranty covered issue?
There is a recommended service interval for the timing belt. If it breaks before then than it should be covered. If it breaks after it will not be nor the damages to the engine if it should happen. So if they recommend replacing it at 60,000 miles and it breaks at 75,000 miles than it would not be covered.
