2003 nissan overdrive issue

hello my name is Doug. I found your forum trying to find a fix for my overdrive not engaging. any help would be appreciated.

my issue

when i was driving my fiancés 03 Nissan sentra GXE with the 1.8L auto. it has had a hard shift she said for some time. be she said the last gear wasn't working so i drove it. when you can get to 60+ in 3rd and be running around 4000-4500rpm
i tryed to disengage the over drive by the button on the shifter. but the dash light will come on but nothing happens i can turn it on and off. but nothing the tyranny fluid does not smell burnt and is a nice red cherry color. i added Lucas to try and fix it but only fixed the hard shift still nothing from the over drive tho. the oil was freshly changed 1053miles ago the car just turned over 227k on the odometer and i do not know the last trans flush. any tips can help and if i left anything out please ask.

the check engine light is on last time i ran the code it was a O2 sensor. and i recently had a issue with it not wanting to start after it got cold but i took care of it going to install new fuel pump because its not putting enough pressure at cold. i was going to to change the trans filter but autozone said it required transmission dissemble. i have changed my trans filters on my 2000 ford ranger, 1999 ford mustang and 1998 Chevy 1500

these trans did have some valve body problems. Really needs to be diagnosed with a scan tool.

there is no filter to change for the trans as most nissans only have a mesh screen that needs no service.

so not a check engine light check?

and valve body means complete trans rebuild correct?

autozone bring up a filter and gasket but we all know how they can be.

and wouldn't the issue slowly progress? it just stopped this morning when it got extremely cold

ya im going to go check things does the over drive have it own fuse? im gona have to sit and read this whole artical lol. but it just doesnt make sense wwhy does it shift fine from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 but it doesnt wana go in to 4 but when it does doesnt stay long if it happens at all
