Molded-in emblem question...

It always seems like after all the coats of paint and primer, the emblems on the body lose way too much detail. I was thinking about priming the whole car, carefully covering the emblems with tape, then painting them the correct color after it's dry.

Does anyone know if this will work or have any other suggestions?

I dont know what model you're talking about but maybe you're using too much primer? anyways, that should work, just cover less than you need, that way, you can cover the body color in the emblem color.

You should only need to coats of primmer and 3 coats of finish at the very most. You should not be losing to much detail unless its getting to much paint.
Another thing you could do if you are worried about it, is as soon as you have sprayed....get a paint brush and carefully soak up the paint or brush the paint away from the emblem...that works best for me.

Sometimes, script is too dull that even a few coats of primer eliminate the details. If thin and light coats of primer can't solve your problem, try foil casting.

Finally, I trim the outline carefully, and paint the Boxster script black.
By using the same technique, you can make a chrome or even gold Boxster script.


Hiro, I'm confused by that step. You trim the BMF so that only the epoxy hardened script remains..in your picture you have two Boxter scripts...were they both made from the same piece of BMF, or did you repeat the process? Thanks

Hiro, you're a stinking genius. I already have some epoxy drying in the foil as I type this. I think my problem is the combination of thick primer and awfully dull scripts/emblems. I'll see what my ability of making ones from foil looks like first, and go from there. Thanks for the tip. I always loved your site and models.

i've been confused by that picture too. i think what throws me off is the fact that one of the scripts is painted red. is that to prove the point about using thinned paint? there is no red used in the model
