It is like they get bribed to hype up some makes while putting others down.

I'm actually starting to like the incorrect info! It makes everyone want to race me, then wonder why they lost

Oh c'mon man. The Delorean is a cool looking ride but a Camry V6 would spank ya for god's sake. I'm a fan of the Delorean don't get me wrong but even the turbo model was a turd. I've driven a few Delorean's but I just could never bring myself to buy one because of the lack of performance. Of course, the Northstar conversion in the Delorean sounds like a sweet deal to me. I helped my old neighbor do a tune up on his car the other day, it was an 88 Eagle Premier, I had totally forgotten those cars had the old Delorean motor in them.

There was no factory turbo model....

If you want something with performance look elsewhere, but you can't assume that performance is at the top of everyone's priority list. The Delorean has a ton of other cool and unique qualities and things it does well that for some, myself included, outweigh the lack of performance. If you want to be one of the millions that drive a Camry V6, have a blast, but if you want a rare and unique car that will turn more heads than the Royal family at a nude beach, the DMC is the car for you.

Actually, speaking of the Premier motor, if you haven't seen www.projectdelorean.com yet, you might want to check it out...photo journal of a guy's modification and restoration of a DMC that he's swapping a Premier engine into.

As a parts guy, I must warn you that when it comes to repairing those "rare and unique" cars such as Merkurs, Deloreans, and Yugos parts are either non-existent, rare and unique, or incredibly expensive! I'm not saying avoid them, just be prepared for a ball-joint costing $100 or an alternator being $300++!!
My Camaro may be like a million others but if I break a rocker-arm crossing the Arizona desert, the nearest parts store will have one in stock and cheap!

I hear ya...thankfully DMC's have managed to avoid the parts problem for the most part...there are several parts specialists and parts aren't usually much more than a typical import part (probly a lot more than Camaro parts though). You will have to wait a little longer for them though, most places don't stock DMC parts

However, the DMC does share a lot of parts with more mainstream cars, which helps. In fact the engine is virtually an early version of the Eagle Premier motor, and a lot of parts can be swapped.

Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't the Eagle Premier a rebadged Mitsubishi? I had thought the Delorean engine was a Peugeot product... If the engine is indeed a Mitsubishi 3.0 you have a huge number of parts sources as it's still used in Chrysler products to this day.

Indeed. The engine was a Peugeot/Renault/Volvo joint project and as used in the DMC was a 2.8. The PRV engine and it's variants were used in the Peugeot 406, 504, 604, 505, 605, 607, Venturi Cabrio, DMC, Talbot Tagora (Chrysler link there), Renault 25, 30, Espace, Laguna, Safrane, and many others, including the Dodge Monaco and Eagle Premier

The Premier engine is a near direct bolt into a DMC, the DMC oil pan IS a direct bolt onto the Premier 3.0. They're nearly the same engine

I am also a parts guy, work for Toyota....
Now it will actually be much harder to find Parts for a Toyota Supra outside of Japan then Finding Parts for a Delorean outside of Texas...

Here in Australia to get Import parts you need to call Toyota in Japan and get the Parts listings for what you want sent over... and to understand what car you've got they have to trace the Compliance plate back to their manufacturers plate.... THEN if they still MAKE the part they may have it out to you in about say.....1-3 months...

If you need a part for a Delorean and worse comes to worse, Contact the DMC in Texas... and ASK. That is ALL they have. Delorean Parts. One Model, one Make...
