Future mod, Maybe

I have a '96 Lumina, 3.1l. I was wondering how much nitrous these motors can take if any or will I just blow the intake and head gaskets?

Re: Future mod, Maybe

The intakes are weak, plus it's a multiport injected engine, so you'd need a fogger style nitrous system (with individual injector nozzles). Otherwise, your upper plenum may achieve orbit.

Re: Future mod, Maybe

l actuly created a 6ported upper intake for nitres, BUT only draw back was it had to be a pure connector so more less a 500shot unless u want to slightly open the obttle by hand to acheave a centon pressor"
so it was like full open bottle its going full out so little open bottle little comes out

Re: Future mod, Maybe

So are there any other mods to up the performance of the 3.1 or an air filter is pretty much it? Like I can keep up with 6 cylinder cameros and stuff but I would like to blow them away and be able to just laugh at them at the next stop light. Ya know.

Re: Future mod, Maybe

What about boost? A mild turbo or maybe even a supercharger. I know the 3.1's will neve keep up with the 3.8 super's but is it worth it or will I have to completely rebuild the motor?

Re: Future mod, Maybe

I was going to say swap in a turbocharged 3800

There is a guy over on http://www.wbodysource.com his name is Vindaloo... He's really cool and knows alot obout the 3.1L engines and getting more power out of them. Also, the owner of wbodysourse also administers http://www.60degreev6.com which is a website dedicated solely to the 60* V6 engines (like our 3.1L).

Re: Future mod, Maybe

I don't see a 3.1 making that much HP... They have turbo'd 3.1L's (the McLarens) and they dont make near that much. the engine would fall apart with that much horsepower unless you completely rebuilt it

Re: Future mod, Maybe

ya man it was a built motor best 8grand l ever spent, unforchinatly to crash it and blow the engine up at he same time. allways got video and pisc to remeber it by

Brad
PS also that was a guestamation coulda been less coulda been more never had it dynoed all l know was l out ran cops faster then ever and keeping up with local 500+hp comaros

my only regret was not being able to find a forged stell timming set so l was allways continusinly settign and re setting that stupid gear

the only way to get boost out of a 3.1 MPFI would be to swap in the 3.1 from a 1989-1990 turbo Grand Prix. thats the easiest, and cheapest. anything else you'd be spending WAY to much money on for just a 3.1

Another route for high HP is swapping in the L67(3800 Series II Supercharged V6 out of GP GTP, Regal GS, etc)

check out w-body.com's forums. there are a couple guys who have done the 3.1 turbo swap and are running around 12-14psi. the hp isnt rediculous(around 230 to the wheels) but the torque is insane(272-330 ft. lbs)

btw there is No supercharger for the 3.1. RSM racing had one, but for $4500 it only added IIRC 80 hp

If you go to w-body, I would be extremely careful what you say. I use to frequent there well over a year ago, but the immiturity level is ridiculous.
