1995 328i doesn't go help

my friend of mine drives a 1997 328i with at least 200k mileages on it already. car doesn't run anymore. car starts but put in drive and won't go as gas pedal is pressed. can this be the transmission or just a transmission solenoid? btw i have a question, if a transmission solenoid is not working, can this affect the tranny not to work?

before major break down, car was running and accelerating slow. sometimes jerks on and off and had to let go gas pedal and step again to make it go away. can this be a toque converter issue? at the red light stop, without press the brake in drive, it wouldn't even go. it'll just stay in place until gas petal pressed.

help is appreicated. thanks
