Angry Not Fast Enough

My 2001 mustang cuts out every time at 117mph. I heard something about there being a "chip" or something installed in all cars after a certain year, like 1994. That will keep cars from going too fast. Is there a way to over-ride that or replace it.. .. and I was also wondering what the name of it was. (the chip)

Sincerely,

Wade

Welcome to AF!
Yeah, you can replace the ECU (chip). Its really expensive and you can get great results out of a new chip.

expensive? You can get one burned from between $250 and $350, depending on if you go with Superchips, or Johnson Motorsports, etc. That's not expensive at all in the Mustang aftermarket, quite reasonable actually...

i believe the chip Wade was talking about is a governer chip intended to shut the car down at a certian speed for saftey.

a aftermarket chip IMO is a waste of money unless you have a highly modded, supercharged, or nitrous car. yes a chip is cheaper then a supercharger, but look at the gain you will get from a super charger or such. a chip is expensive for the little gain you will achive from it and is a waste in a mostly stock car!

Not fast enough huh? Your first mistake was buying a junk Mustang. Buy an F-Body and go 160+. Being slow is a common problem with mustangs, just get some kleenex and you'll be alright.

Impressive to say, I am just speaking the truth. If that is something you can't comprehend, you're just SOL.

Seems more like your talking "facts" that you read those trendy car magazine's. Where's your experience, track time, time slips to back up your statements?

I'm not dogging f-body's, I kinda like them and respect there power. Yet I still favor my mustang cause that's what I am into, but you don't see me trashing other peoples cars or threads! I came here to talk cars and am interested in learning about ALL cars.

What someone does with there money and has there own taste in cars is none of you business. Who are you to put someone down for what they drive or believe in! you have just showed me the lack of respect you have for people, and you ignorance.

Craig

Sorry, did I run over your dog or something. I think you went a little overboard there. Yeah you're right I hate everyone, everyone needs to go to hell. Yup, thats paraphrasing what I said, yup. BTW, I always rag on Mustang owners, they always rag on me because I have a Honda Civic and a T/A WS6. I can care less, if you can't handle people bashing each other in this manner go find another board. Hell put me on you ignore list.

power conversion

Ok i find it difficult not to respond to people who are idiots as far as cars go. Mustangs are NOT slow, they are in fact musch faster than japanese cars are, wit a few exeptions ( such as the DMC i think, engine (sorry if i said the wrong one my memory isnt the best with names) which can handle up to 29 psi of boost which would destroy most engines)
Anyway. The new stock mustang does seem underpowerd at first because the long block engeneering is to pass emisions and ecomony over proformance, put an aftermarket induction and exhuast system that isnt so restrictive and the power explodes.

Hondas do not have the born ability to beat mustngs, or any V8 car produced. true, dump 10k into the engine and they will, but dump that cash into a mustang or camaro and they will run under 10 seconds. I will add that most of that money will be spent into stiffining the frame and other requirements needed to keep the car and driver in one pepice under that much power.

i have a 66 mustang with a 302 built engine. I did the work myself, spent $3000 and have 350 bhp. I run mid 12's in the 1/4.

course i dont expect to be countered with any logical or substantial argument, but there is always a first.

What Rank are you liubei?

Your are not too bright, saying all mustangs are slow. You can make any car fast, Hell, even a Yugo if you wanted. You said you have a WS6, how much did that run you? I bet I have less than half of that in my Stang, and you will still see my tail lights at the end of the 1/4. I run high 11's, and if I wanted to spend a couple more thou I would be deep in the 10's. There are guys in my town running low 9s, and have less than $15,000, yeah ALL STANGS ARE SLOW

Now go study your PFE

By showing your lack of intelligence, and ignorance really does not do the Air Force any justice. I advise you to curb what you write in the future.
