Thinking of purchasing a mini

thinking about getting a new car, and a family friend od mine like 10 years ago was thinking about getting a mini. They took me to a yearly meet somewhere near the bay area of california. As a side note if anyone knows about it, some info would be nice.

So im thinking about getting a new car that i can really work on other then my commuter/grocery getter civic. I dont really know a whole lot about the mini's so if anyone has some sites and what not links they wana post it would much abliged for the older mini's.

Thanks ahead of time for any info.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

I bought my mini from miniguy, paid a bit much but the car was solid for a '66. If you're looking for info on the mini show was it Mini Challenge, at Laguna Seca? I was not impressed, the previous event was far better before the race was tainted by new Minis (only Mini Mania had one straight from Europe). The show and shine was good though, but still to many would be tuners who put an intake and exaust on there Mini and think they have a race car. For more info on that show go to minimania.com they have a bunch of parts, and a accessories for the mini. They also have a listing for mini dealers in the US, as well as a classified section. The only problem is that if it's listed on there they know what they have, no grannys looking to clean out there 'garaged for 30 years S', I've seen some pretty good deals though. As far as mechanics I know a pretty good one here in Campbell (next to San Jose) called Fortech Foreign Car there phone number is (408) 374-2702.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

the show i went to was in the south bay, probly in milpitas or san jose.

I dont know much about which mini to get and since its time for me to start looking into a new vehicle its time to start looking into researching more about the mini.

Thank you for the miniguy site, i emailed him some questions and might just stop off at his lot to check out more minis on my way to san diego soon.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

Ya. Miniguy.com is super expensive. I was there checking out Mini's and the ones I likes were all $15k.. I didn't mind spending that much on one but they all leaked and they weren't even that cherry.. Probably average at best. So that's when I came across my 2001 Mini Cooper that an older man imported over to the states. It has A/C a drivers side air bag, heater, defrost, the works. It was one of the last 50 Mini's they made before selling the rights to BMW and that's what you see on the road now. (2002 and up). After a year of hassle he was able to get Mini to register it as a 72. I paid about what Miniguy was asking but I have all the features of a 2001 including a 1.3 fuel injected 1275cc engine! I'm a happy camper.

Buying a mini is a dumb idea, well.. if you dont have at least $100,000.00

You can just get VW GTI. It is much cheaper! You can also consider the volkswagen Beetle, same platfrorm as Golf, except a lot less weight.

I'd buy a REAL, slightly used BMW for that kind of money. Buying brand new cars is for rich guys.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

100,000??? how do you even get close to that?!

Even the new minis which i think your talking about dont cost that much anymore. I already thought about a VW and have heard mixed things about em. Constantly breaking down and such. Even dealers have told me privately that they arnt worth buying.

im looking to buy an original mini regardless.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

100k? Do you mean in Peso's? Haha.. A Mint condition (old school) Mini will cost at most $20k. The new Minis made by BMW cost at most $35K?
Strange post.

Re: Thinking of purchasing a mini

IMHO people who want a Mini want a Mini and those that want a VW want a VW. It is not a case of should I buy a Mini or a bug. Both are good for different reasons. Should get a good old school Mini IRO $6K- $8K no worries and a pukka one for $10K- $12K
