Monogram motorsport mustang

Kit #2 from the flea market. Kit is very interesting. Lots of detail. Decals are a little yellow and I hope they still work. Not sure if i should spray the body white or leave it plastic white.

These pieces were chrome but i don't like a lot of chrome so it went though CSC.

Will update as i go.

No. You should paint it white.

Re: Monogram motorsport mustang

You should defiantely spray it white, it will give your decals (especially older ones) a much better surface to adhere to.

Looking forward to this build, the chassis of this car is the same as the old Group 5 Zakspeed Capri (as modelled by Tamiya) and there was a very good full detail build of that car, combined with this kit, here on AF a few years ago.

Re: Monogram motorsport mustang

If the decals are yellow, put them in a plastic bag and tape them to a window where they'll get a lot of sun before you're ready to apply them. Couple weeks should do the trick,

And if the decals can't be saved there is always the Speedline decal sheet for the Miller Beer sponsored version. Printed by Cartograf so way better than the originals. Stradasports still has them listed on his site.

good advice on placing decals in the sunlight, it does work. apparently, the pigments react with sunlight to make them whiter. its the reason white painted surfaces always yellow when hidden behind furniture.

Re: Monogram motorsport mustang

just incase the decals are too old, does anyone know if these decals will work on the mustang if they are inteded for the capri?

As for kit updates i dont have much. Found pics of the engine so I painted the engine parts green like the zakspeed ford engines. Painted the body components gloss white. The whole kit is basically calling black for the interior. Is this correct call outs?

dekon: That is an awesome build, I hope mine comes out looking as good as that one. What did you use for the rims...they look better than great.

They are made to fit Tamiya's capri and would not be correct for a mustang anyway. That particular seller is a price gouger anyway. Those decals should be about $10.00. You can get Milller Mustang decals by Speedline from various sources.

Re: Monogram motorsport mustang

Definitely spray the body first like everyone said.

The decals look fine to me, the yellowing is not on the images themselves, but on the backing paper.

Re: Monogram motorsport mustang

well there's a disappointment.....the decals are yellow off the decal paper.... so no decals right now. Heres what i've been working on though.

Front and rear secondary window

This kit calls out most of the interior to be black....but i dont like black all over so, gunmetal for roll cage.

Hopefully I can start assembly tomorrow, almost all the parts are painted.
