Chevelles 64-67's ANSWERS

Thanks for looking. I have restored over three cars in EACH year of Chevelle dating from 64 to 67. Mostly I have restored convertibles. I have bought many parts from NPD, OPG, Hemmings,Chicago Muscle, Sundell and others. I shop for the best prices with shipping in mind. The internet is a wonderfull thing. If you have a question about 64-67 Chevelles ( Codes/VIN numbers/Resto Tips, etc), perhaps I can answer them or point you in the right direction. I travel alot, may take a day or a week to reply.

Several 1964 Chevelle SS cars came equiped with a straight six cylinder engine? Fact or Fiction?

In 1965 , Chevy introduced the 396 Big Block to the Chevelle? ( Fact or Fiction?)

In 1967, only 612 Chevelle SS's had the 396 with 375HP (L-78)? ( Fact or Fiction)

300 Deluxe Emblems

Look on-line at chicagomuscleparts.com. you will find the part number for the 300 deluxe emblem to be 269792. The phone number is on their site. The emblems will probably be in used condition. I have bought parts from them since 1993. If they do not have them, try Sundell Auto Specialties.(use search engine to find info, no web site) They also have tons of used Chevelle parts. Good luck!

The 396 was not available in 1965. The first time it was made an option was in 1966!
And i find it hard to believe that chevy would make a SS in a 6- 194 which makes 120 hp or in the 6-230 with 155hp which were the only 2 6 cylinders available in 1964! give me proof!!!!!

1965 396 " Z-16" Chevelle

Dear 307,

If one were to look up a Chevelle with a VIN/ number starting with 137, its an SS with a 6 cyl. Period

The engine code for a 65 Chevelle 396 BIG BLOCK is IX, it had 375 HP, bore/stroke (4.09X3.75) a comp ratio of 11.0;1, was a 4 barrel with a manual transmission. Cheverolet called these "Z-16's. They are real cars, appreciated by true Chevelle enthusiaists. Here is a picture of the car you claim that does not exist:

http://members.aol.com/z25chevell/index14.html

Here is some valid literature "evidence" if you think I have used special effects or proctored any pictures from whoevers web site this belongs to:
1) Page 15 of Catalog of chevelle and el camino ID Numbers.

2) Page 210 Encyclopedia of American Cars says there was 201 of these cars made.

Lastly, I believe the 307 "Boat anchor" first appeared in the Chevelle in 1968 and later.

Re: Chevelles 64-67's ANSWERS

Do you know where to find the complete vent window lock for the driver side of a 67 chevelle? I've looked in all the major parts catalogues and all the sell is the lock. I need the piece that actually goes through the hole in the window, or do you know anyone that is selling the whole window?

Let me check my garage out, I may have the whole thing. Check this board Wednesday. The vent window has a chrome cap that covers a rubber piece that has the metal piece in it.

Or you can try these chevelle yards/ Try sundell first:

66-67 Chevelle?

Hi guys,
I'm the director of a garage in the United Arab Emirates, just starting to do some modifications on more recent cars. A customer has contacted me about a Chevelle he wants to purchase, and wants some books or manuals to help him work on restoring the car. Can you give me any advice that I may pass on. There are a few questions I would like to ask:
Which model do you advise to start with old restorations? (66-76?)
What are the initial steps he should take to make the car run smoothly?
Where can he purchase the books to help him work on it?
Any points I should look out for when purchasing?
Where can I get parts? I live in the UAE where parts have to be shipped in, and that becomes expensive. Any advice?

Thanks so much for your help, it is much appreciated.
Fahim (a young home based mechanic in distress)
