Now low speeds on blower motor

Hi,

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy and I am having an issue with the blower motor. Speeds 1 and 2 do not seem to work. Speeds 3 and 4 work fine. This is the manual climate control not the automatic. I searched and it seems everyone usually has a problem with the high speeds & not the low speeds....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

right beside the blower motor there should be a climate control has a plug in with two bolts holding it on many times it is that unit that is bad sometimes debri pens clips falling down through dash vents drops down in there and fan makes them bounce off the unit causing it to break the circuit board

Ok so I should look under the hood by the blower motor. Is it on the plastic shroud or near it?

Thanks,

Steve

Yes, under the hood, two screws hold it into the black plastic evaporator housing. The part is a "blower motor resistor". If high speed and at least one other speed work properly, this is almost certain to be the problem. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...RPSESWAMS_____

Ok I feel stupid, I don't see it, do I have to remove/cut the plastic cover? can you see it in either of these two pictures?

Thanks!

Steve

Yup, bottom image. Says "CUT HERE FOR SERVICE". Use a utility knife being careful not to cut to deeply.

Thanks OM much appreciated! That plastic is brittle & falling apart as it is, but I'll be gentle

Thank you very much Paul & OM. $17.99 for the part, 15 min. of my time and all is back to normal!

Thanks guys!!

-Steve

P.S. I'm getting close to the big 200,000 only about 4,500+/- miles to go!!! This site has certainly help my truck make it this far....Other than having to replace the tranny around 130,000, and the intake gaskets last spring it has been mostly smooth sailing....
