Re: Exhaust System-- I am replacing..

Zag,
vehicle (91 Jetta 1.6LNA)
It is kind of a long story. Initially, there was an increase of 2mpg.
but, the vehicle isn't running properly to begin with....
It raised from 42mpg to 44mpg.
I had hoped to be passed this problem below
but, I am not... I wanted to check the pump
timing but, till I get passed this.... I see no point.
There is air in the fuel line....
It idles very rough
Unfortunately, I didn't take notice of this before I put a new
filter in(filled it up).... Meaning was it a pre-existing condition.
I have taken several steps to track it down....
and thought I did..... I ran it out of a bucket
straight into the IP. it ran well. I didn't drive
it around like that but, it was much quieter
and not shaking as much(very little).
there were tiny tiny tiny bubbles in the return.
I think this in negligible......
With the filter and bucket I got the same results.
I ended up removing the rear access to the sending unit(in trunk)
to find fuel in the sending unit valley (particularily at fuel gauge connection)
..... I decided to clean
it up and put new(worm gear) hose clamps
on all the hoses... It ran good for two days.
Drove to work one day it was good.... drove
home it was bad... It took a couple more turns
for her to start (usually va,vum).(this time va va vavava vum)
then ran like terd............. air again.......
Well, I think the 5/16 line at the sending unit worm clamp
became loose.(because it was loose)....... but in the midst of all this..........
I filled the tank... and the sending unit had fuel on it again...
I wish I checked the sending unit before I filled it...........
I tightend the clamp cleaned up the fuel............
filled the filter but, it still runs like terd.........
Could the water separator be full of air.....
And I wonder if I am really affecting things here
I am starting to wonder............
I guess I will run it out of a bucket before the
water separator..... see if it improvess
then run it without the sending unit(bucket in trunk)
What are your thoughts????
Thanks,Micky
Ps. should I start a new thread on this topic just to keep it organized????
