#1 cyl intermittent misfire

I have a 96 Eldorado with a Northstar engine which had developed an intermittent misfire on #1 cylinder. I've changed the plugs and replaced the plug wire which seemed to cure the problem for a while but after a few days the misfire came back. The strange this is that, the car may run fine for several days and then the misfire will come back and may only happen a few time and disappear for several days again or it may decide to stay around and agitate me for a while. Sometimes it will set a "#1 cyl misfire trouble code" and sometimes it won't. I've had it to a good tech twice now but as things go, the darn thing wouldn't misfire when it was in the shop and everything checked out OK. Weather conditions don't seem to matter so I don't think it's a problem with ignition components drawing moisture in wet weather. Anyone out there have a similar problem?

I would check the coil pack. I was having trouble with my 95 Seville, misfiring bad. What I did was remove a wire fron the pack then start it, and check for spark. The pack for the #1 and #4 was bad. One had no spark and the other was intermittent. The part was only $22.25 at Advance, and is a very easy fix. Not sure if your mechanic checked this, and even if he did, if it wasn't a constant problem, it could be the cause.

Re: #1 cyl intermittent misfire

When it misfired, did engine compartment fill up with smoke? Mine did once and has not did it since.

Re: Re: #1 cyl intermittent misfire

might take coil pack and switch it with another cylinder. If mis-fire occurs on other cylinder problem solved.
