2005 DTS Transmission shifts like a rock & Hissing from Steering
I own a 2005 Cadillac DTS with 77,000 miles
it has been in for this problem 3 times and coming out yesterday they still say there is no problem.... (all this is being done by GM @Cadiillac under extended warranty) My car gets to the point of shifting very, very hard , in all gears, until I pull over and turn off the car pull the key , open the door. then restart. sometimes it will be fine for hours, sometimes for days. I never get a engine light. cadillac says there are no codes to pick up. They all act as if I'm a complete idiot. and off I go. To add to this I started having a hissing noise come from the steering column. when I open the door you could hear it from under the car as well. it would only happen when the wheel was in a neutral postion. tuning the wheel just slighty in either direction would make it stop. Ok I take it in and the say bad pressure hose on the PS pump. didn't fix it. then they said oh.. you need a new pump. ok didn't fix it. finally they put in a new rack... ok the hissing is a little less but.... didn't fix it. My freind says it is the pressure valve in the rack and since they used recond. parts I got the same problem. again the car left yesterday... with them saying....oh thats normal noise from a car like this........ I'm ready to jump ship .....frustraited Last edited by KustomMerc; 04-10-2009 at 01:21 PM. |

Re: Transmission shifts like a rock & Hissing from Steering
First thing I would do is get my money back for the ineffective repairs done so far!!! The trans issue can be caused by many things, the most common is a bad press. control solenoid in the trans, a full scan should be done with a trans function scanner to properly diagnose this. The steering is tough, I would look for any TSB"s put out by GM that might address this issue.

Re: Transmission shifts like a rock & Hissing from Steering
Well as it turned out.... there had been no codes for anybody to read.... but finally the computer coughed it up....the trans was starting to shift so hard it almost broke the motor mounts and I figured it wasn't long before I dropped the trans.... anyway the code was a 502... outside speed censor ! a $.37 item which nobody could get in 5 times at the dealer....each time it cost me a new $ 100 deductible......
all is over thank goodness, thanks to all that help here... KustomMerc |

Re: Transmission shifts like a rock & Hissing from Steering
hissing is still in my steering...must be the high pressure valve in the rack....of course the rack was replaced....so this must be a reconditioned part with the same trouble... I give up...what good is a warranty if you can't get Cadillac to fix the problem.....GM
