KL-ZE engine
I bought a KL-ZE engine with 200HP stalk, and I would like to modify the internals of the motor and paint it before installing the engine. Looking to bore it out to a 2.8L and port and polish the heads and intake, shave the heads, upgrade the camshafts, upgrade the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, injectors, springs and retainers, bigger valves in stainless steel... performance oil pan. Looking for 350HP with modes. Can any one tell me if this could be done and where can I get these particular parts.

ok where to begin...
you can't bore your ze to 2.8L..the maximum you can go is 2.7¸..upgrading the internals of the engine is almost useless if you dont go turbo..p&p the intake manifold is a great idea and is done by many owners..shaving the heads can give you a little hp but you can't shave too much cuz you'll mess with the timing and clearence with the valves is an issues too on our car..they don't do performance oil pans sorry...stiffer valve spring is good if you want to rev the engine higher but you should'nt cuz we start to loose power after 7000rpm so it's useless..i really doubt you can go up to 350hp...well it was never done on a N/A set-up..anyways i hope you have big$$$$$ because with all you jsut said you won't go under 15000$ for sure |

My KL-KE engine
Ok, lets start off. I have a few bucks to put into my mx-3 I’m looking to maybe twin turbo the engine. But I can't because no company out their makes a twin turbo kits. I could fabricate turbo headers and rig up my own system but that takes time.
Since I’m trying to make an extraordinary engine for my mx-3 it would be cool to bore it out to 2.7 or 2.8L, also the maximum bore that I could do before hitting water jackets surrounding the combustion chambers is 2.9L, so the machine shop says, and a few engineers that do engines. My friend and me striped the engine down and took the bare block to the machine shop and he say's we could do a 2.803L bore to be exact, if we exceed that we would be hitting the jackets and that would destroy the block. Any way's getting back to the fabrication of a twin turbo system, would you know if there is someone or some company out their that makes twin turbo systems? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Red 1996 MX-3 is lowererd 1.3' in the front and 1.5' in the rear, 93 leather interior, 93 dash, alpine deck and speakers, MARX Mesh Style Rims 17X9 with 225/40-17 pirelli P7000 poerformance tires. |

no there's no company that makes turbo system for the mx3...TT i have never seen a TT mx-3 in my life...and i've been around for quite a whiler now....take A LOT of tuning...and i believe there isn't much room to fit 2 turbo inside the engine bay...many kl experts have stated that 2.7L is the maximum you could with this engine... and your talking big bucks to make custom pistons to fit that 2.7...anyways do as you wish just keep us updated of your progression..I'm curious of where this will lead . . .

My KL-ZE engine
Hello again, today I was searching the Internet and found a small company that does twin turbo systems for V6 K8, KL-ZE, K08, it is very expensive but can be done. The Internet address is http://www.geocities.com/knightturbos/promaz.html.
Anyway getting back to over bore size on my KL-ZE, I ordered original blueprints from a Mazda dealership for the engine and it will determine the exact size of over boreing my engine to 2.8L. In order to bore it out to 2.8L I would have to determine the piston wall thickness and clearance to the water jackets. The KL-ZE engine bore size is 84.5mm bore in order to get it to a 2.8L I would have to bore it out to 89mm, which is 4.5mm bigger in size. Calculating mm to thou it turns out to be a 177.165thou overbore, so it seems quite a bit but I think there is a 250thou clearance to the water jackets, I can’t determine for sure but I will when the dealer gets those blueprints in for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Red 1996 MX-3 is lowered 1.3' in the front and 1.5' in the rear, 93 leather interior, 93 dash, alpine deck and speakers, MARX Mesh Style Rims 17X9 with 225/40-17 pirelli P7000 performance tires. |

the turbo kit mentinon above (the tkt one) will fit probes and mx6 but won't fit the mx-3...why?? the mx-3 is about 1 foot smaller in length and about 6 inches shorter on the widht....the placement of the turbo on the TT set-up doesn't work with the mx-3 because we hae less space between the rad and engine so no trubo will fit there...and all the piping would have to be routed differently...i already knew that thomas knight made a turo/supercharge set-up for kl engines but i heard MANY complaints about em...never heard of a good thing...crappy welds etc....
now it's up to you if you wanna pay 6295$ for set-up you will have to mod a LOT to make it fit...and why don't you just go with a bigger turbo than a TT set-up? i mean it's the same except less tuning |

Kl-ze
Hey, well you’re probably right, that this guy's turbo systems suck. Well I was not considering buying a turbo system from him I was just looking at the way he set it up. I would probably have a pro weld shop build me some really nice Turbo headers and do a really pro like job, and buy my own turbo's. Thomas Night Turbo’s are very am mature looking and it really looks lam. I would get a really nice intercooler and build my own piping for the engine it would be tight but it could be done.
