94 auto trans shaking when accelerating
Just had my car aligned, and it still shook like it wasnt aligned. It shakes horrible when I accelerate, and then calms down a little once I am at cruising speed. It seems to shake more when it is cold. The motor runs great. Just changed the plugs and plug wires. the mechanic said it was my tranny - that it was going out. Is this true? Is there something I can just fix other than replace/rebuild my tranny? It's a good car, but not worth replacing the tranny! Any ideas? Thanks very much! I appreciate your help!

Re: 94 auto trans shaking when accelerating
Have you tried injector cleaners? try spraying that in with some premium fuel... don't have to fill up.. just get like 5-10 litres.. use the cleaner and see if it helps.. if it does then you need to clean the injectors...

make sure you're not pullin oil in one of your cylinders. My Maxima does this exact thing that you describe, and oil is the issue.

I also just had my alignment checked and adjusted (and checked twice, after it still vibrated after the alignment was done). I even got new tires! After all that checking, the mechanic said it was my transmission going out. (he did a road test) I just need to know a few things: 1) has anyone else heard of this problem? 2) is there maybe something I could do to fix it that wouldnt require replacing the transmission? 3) Is there something else it could be (other than tires and motor)? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it! |

I also own a 74 nova that has a high speed vibration (was a bent axle) I replaced the u joints, then driveshaft, then tires and rims, then replaced the whole rear end. Finally found it. However I have 3 other friends who complained of vibrations and 90% of the time it was the tires (even some brand new) more so with the cheepo tires. Are you sure, positive, seen they balanced them. Try rotateing your tires and see what effect if any.

Re: 94 auto trans shaking when accelerating
I have experienced something similar, and I thought it had to be my alignment. After having both front tires replaced, I was told that my rear springs are broken, and my front outer tie rod is broken. I am in the beginning of repairing this on my own, and your description sounded familiar, so it's just a thought. I have found out that Escorts are notorious for tie rod breakage.
