Thinking of buying a 2001 Altima
I'm thinking of buying a 2001 Nissan Altima. I like what I've read. Can anyone give me your experiences good or bad? Also, the information on the 2002 Altima was interesting. Does anyone have any ideas on how much more it'll be?

Yes
I was in the dealers last night test driving the new Maxima GLE and asked about the new Altima which debuts here in Canada next week I believe. The dealer told me, top of the line SE with leather, Auto Sun-Roof etc will be $34,999CAD + applicable taxes.
Sounds like it might be a better buy than the Maxima at $38,000CAD |

Ouch
Ouch! That's quite a hike in price. I know people that have Maximas and they love them to death. Maybe you're right. The 2001's are quite a bit cheaper than the 02's.

It depends which car were you driving? The 2001 Maxima or the 2002? The new 2002 Maxima SE is going to be AMAZING 255bhp with a six-speed manual....and the Altima is a 240bhp V6....but the 2002 Altima is masive..i mean its like GTP big......or at least so it looks (i went to the opening at a local dealership) Id personally have the 2002 Maxima over the 2002 Altima... But if you were looking at a 2001 Maxima i would hold tight, and squeeze the dealer as much as you can, because if he doesnt get rid of them soon hes going to loose big. Like you said who would want those when you can get more for less in the new Altima?

Maxima won
Test drove the Altima and the Maxima back to back, along with the Acura TL an hour later. I found the Altima looks great with probably a little more interior room, speed and handling were comparable but I was put off the Altima by the acres of hard plastic, even with the leather option on the SE interior just doesn't come close to the Maxima, the leather is nowhere near as good a quality either (the black leather looks and feels like hard vynil, the tan leather is a little better), I guess the extra $3000 I paid gets me better materials, heated steering wheel (quite important during our Alberta winters) and a quieter car. Seemed worth it to me so I got the Maxima. I imagine the first thing to be updated on the Altima will be the interior trim. Idid manage to get a few freebies thrown in on the Maxima, not sure if I would have got those on the Altima with the expected demand. Only thing is, I want the Acura gearbox in my Maxima!
