Buy new head bolts, follow the torque pattern (if you have it, if not I have the Haynes manual). Label EVERYTHING unless you feel sure you know where stuff goes. Basic things, but I have nothing more than basic Quad-4 knowledge. I never really got the oppertunity to rip one apart.

we are labeling everything, right down to the bolts. Its turning into being a major engine compartment tear down, if you know what I mean. That car should run great when were done, were redoing all the vacuum lines, and plugs and wires, water pump, you name it. Wish us luck.

Re: 1993 Achieva Head Gasket

yeah, so far we got the alternator, vacume lines, all sensors, power steering pump, and the coolant out. We are just kinda doing a little every day, you know untill were sick of it. These quad 4's are kind of a pain. There's a lot of room, but not where you need it, ha ha. I will keep the updates coming. This baby was running really rougn towards the end. Very rough. It will be nice to get her back. (wink)

the timing housing is turning into being a pain. We had to jack up the left side of the motor, and remove the mounts. We did get it removed, and thats about all for today.

Re: 1993 Achieva Head Gasket

Those damn quad 4 cylinder motors are worthless pieces of junk. I just thank god that mine doesnt have a DOHC, or I would be neck deep in shit. I havn't done much with it lately, Just removed the cover, and cam, and power steering. I;ve been too busy, and its been too cold. I will keep the updates coming though. My biggest fear is not being able to get it back toghter. We are labeling everything, but there is so much to keep track of, its so overwelming.

Worthless pieces of junk huh. How about maintaining your car instead of giving the quad 4 a bad name. The SOHC was by FAR the worst engine I have seen in regards to reliability. It is the only lemon quad out there and should be avoided at all costs. I myself have a DOHC HO and I have had ZERO problems with it. But then again I really to take care of my car rather well. It may have been easier to just swap a DOHC into your car instead of ripping the SOHC apaer. Or better yet just put the DOHC head onto the block and go from there. All I know is that the SOHC engine is better suited as a paper weight than an engine. Anyways good luck on the rebuild. The quad 4 may not be the easiest engine to work on but I have seen worse. FAR worse. Anyway good luck.
