Red Zed - this is looking great - I have this kit in progress too - one thing I found though - is to paint the bodywork in yellow before the red paint is applied - it gives a more "Ducati" like red that the regular red is - John

Re: Tamiya Ducati Desmosedici GP4 2004 Loris Capirossi 1/12

zed red - do you have any reference pictures of the engine? I think the valve covers should be a darker magnesium color and the timing belt covers on the right side of the engine should be either black or carbon fiber. Not trying to pick on your paint scheme, but the engine appears to lack a lot of detail that is possible with a little extra work. From the pictures the engine is all one color "aluminum silver". Also try to do a black wash on the radiators it will bring out a lot of detail in the radiator cores. mix a 1:20 or 1:30 ratio of black acrylic paint to thinner and lightly wick the paint onto the radiators and let it run over the surface and then wipe off the excess. Give it a try - this can also be done to the engine to bring out some of the detail. I believe you will like the effect you can get from the finish - If you are looking for reference source the best one is the MotoGP "Pitwalk" guides - they're sold out everywhere already, but every now and then you can see the on evilBay - John

Thanks for your comments, but valves covers and timing belts covers is alluminium silver like the engine.
Only the oil sump is dark magnesium (but in the flash-pic it's difficult to see the color).
The radiator is not painted. Only the radiator and hoses are painted (red) and there is carbon decals on the cover egine in the radiator centre.

Bye

Zed red - looking at your reference "pitwalk" book - you are correct in the colors - I would have expected the gear-belt covers to be in some type of plastic or carbon fiber as it surely has to be lighter than the aluminum - even maybe magnesium. It is possible that making the minimum weight for MotoGP is not an issue for Ducati so there is no need to use a different material than the aluminum. You are doing a great job on your Ducati - keep up with the posting and the pictures of your work - John
