Atkinson spotted in London

Not particularly exciting, but nice to see the car being used nontheless. Even on a rainy day!

Sweet!

Though I see a post from you in that thread claiming he has a longtail road car. To my knowledge, it's a longtail GTR - #24R - and I'm fairly certain it's not road legal.

You should share the interior photo of his car over there:

BTW: Anyone else think that PH.com should revoke the membership of someone who sees a McLaren F1 and only takes one picture?

Thumbs up

Just slightly off topic. I caught a bit of a programme on which had Mel Smith (of the comedy series Smith and Jones) talking about his Rolls Royce Corniche. A truely beautiful car. He was the director on "Mr Bean the Movie" And he talked briefly about the time Rowan took him out in the F1.

He said the same thing everyone says. That when you're in another fast car the rate of acceleration starts to slow as you get to 90,100,110. But he said in the F1 even when your up to 160 its still going and he said he was scared

Nice to see Rowan uses his how it should be

Yes he has. Hit a Maestro IIRC. That was back in 99

Accident-prone Mr Bean crashes 650,000 pound sports car
October 26, 1999
BY LEWIS SMITH

ROWAN ATKINSON, the comedian, yesterday crashed the prized 650,000 pound sports car that he bought to celebrate the success of his hit Mr Bean film.

Atkinson, who became a household name for his television roles as Blackadder and the Mini-driving Mr Bean, walked away unscathed from the crash, but his car was badly damaged. He had been driving along the A6 at Forton, Lancashire, when he was involved in the collision with a Rover Metro. The driver of the other car, Margaret Greenhalgh, suffered whiplash injuries.

As Mr Bean, Atkinson was famous for driving an aged Mini, or sometimes a Reliant Robin, but in real life he drives expensive, fast cars and the MacLaren F1 is just one of a string of vehicles he has owned, which include Rolls Royces and Mercedes. Only 150 MacLaren F1s were sold and owners were advised to get special driving lessons to help them to cope with its handling.

Atkinson has a particular soft spot for Aston Martins and he chose the Zagato model as his luxury, together with a tin of wax polish, when he
appeared on Radio Four's Desert Island Discs.

His MacLaren F1, which is fitted with a Formula 1 engine and has a top speed of 230 mph, had to be towed away from the scene yesterday after suffering extensive damage to the bodywork.

Mr Atkinson's brother Rodney, said after the crash: "Obviously, we are relieved that he is uninjured. He's an absolute fanatic when it comes to cars. The faster they are the more he likes them. He's a very good driver."

Police are investigating the crash. Mrs Greenhalgh's husband, Robert, said: "Margaret told me that he couldn't have been nicer. She was impressed he was so concerned with her welfare."
Not sure of the source, but this seems to be the most accurate report on the event. Of course we know there weren't 150 sold , and we know it's not a Formula 1 engine , and it's certainly not spelled "MacLaren" but the rest of the details are probably good.

Re: Atkinson spotted in London

I remember. It made a real mess of the nose cone area. But the Rover he hit, only had a small dent.

He is fundamentally a nice bloke though, so Im not surprised he was concerned for the lady.

That's a really cool pic, would be a great one for exoticspotter.com. I love how it's just sitting there making all other vehicles look terrible. I'd probably make that shot my wallpaper if it was big enough. The rainy effect is cool.

you seem not to have seen the original pic of Rowan's McF1 of the guy mentioning, now as you see, its pic is totally different one. So should you have seen the initial pic, probably your radar detector would have not been dull. Unfortunatly i dont have that pic..
