Tach reading vs speedo reading ??

I've just rebuilt the engine on my D's '97 Tracer wagon LS auto trans. I would like to pay attention to speed while the engine is in "break-in".

But the speedo is flacky. The speed indicator needle wistfully moves up to 45mph and stays there ... eventually falling back to "zero" when the car is stopped. I think I've read all the posts on this issure ... done all the home remedies ... to no avail. The solution seems to be the $160 new speedo head ... maybe I'll buy this eventually.

But for the meantime, can someone with a similar year model with auto tranny, take note of what tach reading you have when driving at some speed ... say 50 mph or 60 mph ???

I'll then be able to use the tach as a speedo (sorta).
