Multiple water pump replacements - 95 Contour
I have had the water pump replaced on my 95 Contour at least 5 times in the last 14 months (98K to 110K). There is a waranty on all since the first but my mechanic is baffled and getting tired of seeing me. I thought you guys might be able to enlighten me.
Other threads talk about the cooling system on the Contour but no one seems to have the same situation I'm dealing with here. Am I crazy or is Ford just putting out an inferior part? According to my mechanic he called Ford and they have had 10 model changes to the pump but don't acknowledge there is a problem with thier water pumps. Is the problem trully originating with the water pump itself? Or is there something else in the system that might cause the water pump to fail? On one of the other threads they talked about a problem with multiple thermostat sensors causing the fan to not start up. The symptom is that the housing on the water pump keeps failing, causing leaking. Could an over hot cooling system deteriorate the integrity of the pump? Or am I just whistling in the dark? Any input would be appreciated! |

im assuming you have the V6.
yes the waterpump is the culprit. Actually its the plastic impellar that breaks under high rpms. I would suggest upgrading to the metal impellar pump.
