Re: Top Speed

The eclipse 3g GT top speed is a little over 150 and we have no governer. 172 is the fastest you can upgrade your car to go with the stock tranny.

Re: Top Speed

i thought 150 was as far as it would go on the trans

99 gsx's went about 140, the speedo is off, really off, though so it looks like 147 or so

you don't need to know the top speed for daily driving, or track for that matter , if you do, don't buy one buy a civic

Ive had m 00' GT 5 speed up to 140 with 2 other people in the car. Let me tell you....it seems like you are going a lot faster in real life than it does in video games...but for it being that fast on an almost stock car, it was pretty stable. Im impressed with how it was holding togeather. I think that the drag limit on a stock are with no iduction is a little under 150...unless you have a tail wind. Either way, you better be testing it in daylight on a very open stretch. The car gets up to 120 pretty easy...but after that it takes a little to get her going. I would say the WRX STi...the only bad thing is that it is governed at like 150 or so...and the thing that sux is that not only is it governed...but it like shuts the fuel off....so, i think you have to stop and restart from what I have heard from Auto magazines. (althoug, i dont blame Suburu for doing it...i bet that car could probably do 170 stock with lots of road)

Re: Top Speed

the gearing runs out at 170mph but you probably wont get above 150mph b/c of drag.

Re: Top Speed

you can get an eclipse over 170. . . but only after it accelerates at 9.8 meters/sec. lol. Someone will get it.

haha nice...i got it...physics stuff....for those of you who dont understand..9.8 meters/second squared is the acceleration at which things fall towards the earth due to the gravitational pull, so hes saying that if an eclipse fell off of a mountain or cliff, it could reach 170mph easily...Man, and im supposed to be the stupid 17 year old from Mississippi.

Just a note...for all of us using the British system of things, it's 32ft/s. Also, falling at 32ft/s, or 9.8m/s does not consider wind resistance into the equation. After a while you will reach maximum velocity and you will cease to accelerate due to wind resistance.

Re: Top Speed

it doesnt matter how much road you have, you still wont get to 170mph. for one, the speedo doesnt read but to 160, so how do you know when you get to 170?? also, the drag on the car will be too great for the engine to overcome.

The speedo is 150, and yes you COULD go 170 if you had the power to do it. Just because the spedo stops doesnt mean the car stops. My spedo in my 84 Landcruiser was topped at 85...and i had the needle bouncing on 85 several times. Also, I was talking about an STi doing that...i know our car couldnt...at least stock.
