Re: Cabin air filter
I just changed mine out today and boy were they dirty. BTW, I picked up a pair at O'Reilly's for $16.99.

This might relate to this filter but on my 99 I could turn my heat or air controls to off and nothing would come out of the vents and on my 02 I turn it all the way off and I still feel the air coming through my air vents depending on what temp I have the gauge on hot or cold. I thought maybe the cabin filter might either be gone or from reading this it sounds like I dont have one on the 02.

Re: Cabin air filter
Well I've never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but after nearly convincing myself that my '99 Z71 LS that had nearly every option available, didn't have a cabin filter, guess what, I finally found it! I guess I hadn't realized that whole big ass plastic cover had to come off first. Anyhow, got the little L shaped cover off and had to DIG the filters out! Took out what had to be a pound of dirt, bug bodies, weed seeds, mold, mildew and dog hair. (Bought my truck used, from a farm). Holy crap. I beat the hell out of the filters, vacuumed them and then used the air compressor on them. Then I sprayed 'em down good with that Febreeze stuff. Made a world of difference. I always wondered why it stunk like mildew whenever I used the A/C.

Re: Cabin air filter
I have a '99 X-Cab, LS. It has the center console. The manual does not give a clear description on the location of the filter. Can someone clarify it for me? I'd rather do it myself than pay the dealership to do it. In AZ, the price of the filters are $35-$40, depending on the dealer.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Cabin air filter
Yea, even my Haynes repair manual neglects to say that the big black plastic cover has to come off first. Three screws hold that sucker on, I got the middle and the right side one out but the left one is kinda hard to get at, its in front of your center console. I just loosened it enough to let the cover drop down. Then there is a little cover about a inch and a half wide that has one screw towards the front near the firewall. take that out and pull the little cover down. You should see the first filter. Take it out and the second filter is stuffed in behind it. I couldn't get a hold of mine so I used a piece of wire with a little hook bend on the end to snag it and pull it out. The filters set right next to the heater core if that helps.

What company and where abouts in Canada? I as well live in Canada and that is a pretty good price compared to what the "stealership" wants for them.

zum-zum...
You can buy it most Canadian Tire stores....if they don't have them in stock...ask them to order it for you...may take a couple days, but worth it...they are supposed to be the best...
