Unhappy Need Help With Amp/sub!!!!

Copy and pasted from sounddomain, got no help there

i have a lightning audio B150.2 (50x2 RMS@4ohm) amp and a lightning audio P10.4 (100watt RMS) sub. i'm using a 12 gauge power cable and grounded cable. so here is the problem...yesterday my amp and sub were playing perfectly. i had the gain all the way up and no bass boost on. i've been playing like this for a long time already until yesterday. all of the sudden i hear a pop from the sub and the amp turns off leaving the "protected" light up. so i thought i blew my sub. i'm only sending the sub 50 watt so i'm like "how could it blow?" so today i went out to check it. i checked the fuse, reinstalled all the wires, and checked the headunit RCA cables. i turned the gain about half way before i turned on the system. when i do turn it on, everything is fine again, except the bass isn't that high anymore so i turned on the bass boost. once i did, i hear that pop again and everything was back to where it was. i got so fusturated and had to check everything over again. this time the bass boost was off again. i set the crossover level lower to like 60hz. now i can turn the gains little bit higher than before. once it hits a bass note...everything shut off and the amp's protected lights came on. so i figured the bass turned it off. how can i fix this problem? is it because i'm not getting enough power to the amp? do i need to get bigger wires? can anyone help me?

OK, i had a problem similar to that. Check the power wires. How many amps did u say u had? 2? Are they dolly-trained? If so that may be the problem. So you check all fuses, right? Fuses on amp and fuse from batt? Maybe there is something wrong with the voice coil in the sub. You may want to check that. IF possible, try putting another sub (a friends maybe) and ride around for awhile on that. You should also check the settings on the deck. Or check behind the deck to make sure the rca cables are connected. That may be the prob. But if all fails. I think you may need a cap......I can help you a little more if you need it. Email me or get at me on aim.....

as SmoovCriminal18 said the best way to troubleshoot it is try another sub. if it still does it then you know its in the amp not the sub.

then from there you can test it further.

the first rule of running any amp is

DO NOT SET YOUR GAINS AT MAX!

the distortion made by you lower end amp killed your SUbwoofer
every time you have your gains at max I garantee weather its a 100 or 500 dolar sub it will blow

the first thing that you need to do is buy a new sub the second thing you need to do is set your gain at no more than 3/4 power

what happens is when you run the amp at max it creats alot of "noise" wich is very good for you sub think of a rain drop falling into water it makes nice smooth riplles thats how a sub works best but if you run your gains at max it will be more like wine glass filled with water again this time the ripples are created by a fork stricking the glass the ripples are very eratic and arent as smooth, this is very bad for a sub, you want you sub or any speaker to go through it travel in the straightest line as posible. in your cas the subs travel was eratics from side to side and up and down, causing the internals of the sub to ground out or work out of range. your amp goes into protect when it has no load to distribute its power.

i hd this proble running a sony 300 watt anpa nd a alpine type-s sub I went through about three subs before i had ittkaen in to get checked the first thing the techi told me was my gains should never be at max
oh and if your using a sony deck with bass boost try and avoid, bass boost amplifies the distortion to the sub if anythong just pu the deck on LOUD mode that should get you going good plus remmber it only 100wats dont expect to much from it

I hope that helps you
