Dick Simon Duracell Lola T93/ Al Unser Jr conversion

Hey everyone

I am planning to start building Al Jr's 93 lola using the Tamiya kit for Dick Simon's Duracell Ford. I have decals from Indycals for a speed oval conversion. I was always a huge fan of these cars back in the day, and a fan of Al Jr. Any suggestions on the Valvoline blue?

I don't know the exact colour, but when I needed a specific paint color (Note: for airbrush) I always use Zero Paints. I order them from HiroBoy, but there are more resellers available. If your colour isn't readilly available from their stock list, you can order it specifically. You do need to have a colour code.

Good luck.

It's great to hear that you're planning to build Al Jr's 93 Lola using the Tamiya kit and decals from Indycals. As for the Valvoline blue color, I would suggest using a high-quality automotive paint in a shade that closely matches the Valvoline blue used on the actual car. You may want to refer to photos of the car or consult with a knowledgeable hobby shop to find the right color match.

It's also important to properly prepare the surface of the model before painting to ensure a smooth and even finish. This includes cleaning the surface thoroughly, sanding down any imperfections, and using a primer to help the paint adhere better.

When applying the paint, it's best to use thin, even coats and allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. This will help prevent drips, bubbles, and other imperfections. You may also want to consider using a clear coat to protect the paint and give it a glossy finish. Partner Net HEB

I built the Gil de Ferran/Team Walker 98 car. Blue is Ultramarine Blue (RAL5002) from Zero Paint. Matched my decals (Studio 27) perfectly.

Yours may be a different shade. In this thread he used Tamiya TS-15 Blue. Both are probably good options.
