'02 300m speed limiter

I no longer have my 300m, it was totaled about 3 years ago, but I did have a question about it and hoped someone could answer it for me.

Whenever I'd reach the top speed on my grand prix, the car just simply wouldn't give any more power. When I had my 300, it felt like it hit the brakes at 110mph. I'm not talking about a gentle reminder either, it felt like a pretty harsh tap on the brakes. First time it did it I wasn't sure what happened, kinda scared me for a minute. Was this a normal reaction to hitting the limiter on these cars? Do the newer 300's do this?

Can't tell you about new 300's, but, yes, when the M hits the limiter it is kinda like running out of gas or just as you described.
