Exclamation help! my 92 LX honda's RPM's are running weird!

My car's RPM's are running low compared to what it used to. It idles around 500 RPM and it vibrates hard when i accelerate. Also while idling, the RPMs jump to 1200-1500 then suddenly drops back to 500. My question is what can i do to check the vehicle myself without taking it in?

What is the car's maintenance history? Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap? If all the above have been taken care of, check coolant level. Low antifreeze or air bubles in the cooling system may cause this problem as well.

Good luck,

Sam
