Secondly fuel filter

I have a 1997 jeep cherokee se 2 door, I know the fuel filter is in the tank. My question is , would it be possible to add a secondary inline fuel filter?

Re: Secondly fuel filter

Yes, absolutely if done right.

Curious what issue you're having that you'd want or need to do that?

Re: Secondly fuel filter

Once it gets lower then half a tank it sputters and has a hard time getting speed ( like it's not getting fuel) one we fill it up, it's back to normal.

Re: Secondly fuel filter

Also have to hold the gas to keep it going then after a few it's fine.

Re: Secondly fuel filter

There is a thread on here I think from years ago with a similar problem.

I will see if I can find it, but do a search of you might be able to find it yourself…

If I remember correctly, the solution was to -unfortunately- drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump and filter in the tank. It's kind of a big job, but from how you describe it, the problem is not with enough filtration in the fuel system but that it's either a weak pump, clogged filter in the tank, or both.

Re: Secondly fuel filter

Okay thank you, I appreciate that and that's what I was afraid of. It's definitely not a fun job . I will definitely look for it.
