First car???

Would a 1985 Cadillac Seville be a good first car or not?

Re: First car???

These cars are complicated and have a lot more "bells and whistles" than the typical GM car. That means there is potentially more to go wrong. Unless you have the skills and tools to do the bulk of your own repairs, these cars can be costly to keep on the road.
The car you are considering is 21 years old. Things go wrong with any car that age, just from age, wear and tear aside.
I'm not trying to discourage you, just offer a serving of reality so that you know what you may be getting into.

As DFBonnet suggested and wisely so, these were troublesome cars, the engine in particular, the 4100, was very unreliable and I could give you a long list of other issues, not a good choice to spend any money on.

I have to ask, after the advice given and your final post, what was the point of asking the original question? The time people donate to help with legitimate questions is valuable, seems not so in this case!

Re: First car???

Well for good first car i was sort of meaning collision safety more than reliability, because there are many reliable cars, but i cant afford them, or they have bad crash results. I've got tools for engine problems. Im sorry for not being clearer.

Re: First car???

Only Gov't safety/crash test results will give you an accurate picture of that cars crashworthiness.

If you want a Cadillac for safety, get a big body one. Like the late 70's early 80's Devilles and Fleetwoods. Even the Broughams made through the 80's and 90's are very safe, big cars. And they are cheap, and easy to work on.
Near me is a nice '77 Sedan Deville with under 100k miles for $1,500.

Thanks but no thanks, every deville/fleetwood my family owned either crapped out on us or caught on fire.(shows that you can keep a grudge against something for ten years)

Well the 425 powered Devilles and Fleetwoods are among the most reliable cars ever made. And I can't believe you'd pass on one of those and take an HT4100 powered Seville????
