1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 8v - OIL??
Hello there.
My mother has a 1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.4i GLS on 83k miles. First thing it is using a lot of oil. Is this a common problem perhaps burning up or something? Secondly - how many litres of oil does it take when the dipstick reads min to get it to max? Many thanks. |

Re: 1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 8v - OIL??
My 1994 Opel Astra 1.4 SOHC carburetor does not use oil.
You should describe what you have checked. E.g. are there any leaks? Place some paper under the car overnight afer you have driven it. What does the exhaust look like? Colour / deposits. Try holding your hand about 10cm behind the exhaust when the car is idling. Little spots of water are normal - oil is not. Check the coolant overflow tank for signs of oil leakage into the coolant system. The oil has to go somewhere. It either leaks or is burned and passed out the exhaust. As I recall it is 1 litre of oil to get it from min to max. I can't really be sure though as the car does not need anywhere near that amount of topping up between scheduled service oil changes. |
