Check engine light on
I just purchased a 2000 Mystique with 86,000 miles on it. The check engine light just came on. I checked the oil and car isnt overheated . What could be the problem.? I read here I can take it to autozone and they will test it free. I guess its ok to drive it till I can get there.

probably just a bad O2 sensor. have autozone pull the code for you.

country girl the check engine light has nothing to do with the oil or water temp. it mainly monitors all the sensors for emmissions and fuel. It should be ok to drive with it on. If it is a problem that can damage the engine the light will blink. madmax |

Drove mine for nearly a year w/the light on until it finally started to stall out on us, idle rough and all that good stuff. Was the O2 (oxygen) sensor.

I think I would have gotten to the bottom of the problem of the check engine light being on before driving a year. A bad 02 sensor can burn up a tranny on it's own.
