04 6.0L powerstroke egr delete kit
I have an 04 F250 with a 6.0L powerstroke and I'm having problems with the egr valve. So I've been looking into egr delete kits and talked to several Ford mechanics to see if they know anything about them. Obviously they don't or at least won't admit it. But one of them said the egr acted as the waste gate for the turbo and didn't know how the turbo would work without the egr. So my question is are there any down falls to deleting the egr?

An EGR really helps keep the exhaust temps down. Without an EGR your truck could damage the turbo and anything else in the exhaust.

EGR block off is money well spent, Mines blocked off and so is everyone I touch on a day-to-day basis.
Let me ask you this: Do you have coolant coming from under the cap on the De-Gas bottle? BTW: Most 03-04 6L wont throw a check engine light for no EGR valve.. 05-up will

Re: 04 6.0L powerstroke egr delete kit
After poking around and reading about it, I have to say, I've changed my mind. On a diesel the EGR acts more like a crap in your mouth. Unburnt soot goes right back into the intake which gets into the oil. Makes it dirtier quicker and sorta kills your gas mileage and power to an extent. Buffalo isn't correct about it letting the exhaust flow free-er, EGR only recirculates it by way of an attached pipe which doesn't inhibit flow. Having to cool the exhaust going back into the engine seems to be a bit inefficient as well as the extra heat from the exhaust going back into the engine. Eliminating that cycle drops the temps and uncorks the power loss which also helps fuel mileage. I'd say go for it, even if it sets a light.

Re: 04 6.0L powerstroke egr delete kit
Common problem damn 6.o's. 05 will set a light when it's deleted, but what happens if it's still plugged in, but not in the engine? Think the light will still set?

Re: 04 6.0L powerstroke egr delete kit
ok sry it took so long to reply been busy plowing snow...anyway to answer the question no i don't believe so and i had ford look at it and they reprogrammed the computer and it seems to have fixed it and they said it needs a new thermostat which is an easy fix...I'm gonna plan on getting an egr delete from sinister this summer when i have extra cash, they have a warranty on theirs which is the only one i found that does. just a side note I've been told by many 6.0 owners that they have to have theirs reprogrammed a lot so that's something to look out for. they also said that putting chips in vehicles isn't so great cause the computer aren't designed to handle the extreme ones.

Re: 04 6.0L powerstroke egr delete kit
they say that if u leave it plugged in it wont set a light. they also recommend an chip or something like that, that will shut off the light. best thing to do is to talk to the people your thinking of buying one from, they'll know what their product does and doesn't do.

Use gasket material to make your own EGR gasket, but don't make hole for Egr gases to pass.

The best material to use is the leaded material. Its gray/silver and shiny. That stuff will seal just about no matter what.
