'93 Aero,rough initial start...and bad mileage
Hello members. Newbie here. I'm having a couple problems with my 93 Aero*. When starting the engine, cold, first thing in the morning, it starts, then runs rough(shaking and bucking) for about 2-3 secs, then smoothes out. Occasionally, it will quit after the 2-3 secs of rough-running. When that happens,it restarts normally with no rough-running or bucking and will start and run normally for the rest of the day. Then next morning,it goes through the same procedure. It does seem to be worse on the colder days. Any ideas out there?
Also, what are the stardard checks to do for low mpg's? This van seems to go through a lot of fuel. Thanks in advance, and thanks for letting me join the group! |

You may have a problem with your choke which sticks, hence the excessive fuel usage.

Re: '93 Aero,rough initial start...and bad mileage
Any check engine light associated with these problems? Right now, I'm thinking it might be a MAF (mass air flow sensor) or an oxygen sensor but it might not be bad enough to trigger the check engine light.
Is it a 3.0 V6 or the 4.0 V6? |

It's a 4.0L...sorry, should of put that in the original post. No "Check Engine" light. I've been told that the old OBD1 system wont throw a code for an O2 sensor. Could be MAF as I changed the air filter recently and seems to have improved the starting a bit.
Thanks for the reply |
