About to buy a 3000GT and had some questions...
I found a real good deal on a nice 99 3000gt, the only downside is its the base model. I'd rather have a vr4 but there so hard to find and almost twice as much money soooo I need some help or suggestions on whats the best way to get the base model up to snuff. Are there any turbo kits? How good are the stock internals on them, can they handle boost or would they have to be replaced? Would a VR4 engine swap be better? Any other things that really help performance? I would appreciate any and all website links or any other info you know.

looks like i am being summoned as for the 99 base, it comes with the SOHC engine, so if you got the SOHC engine, your best bet is either you would have to locate an engine and do a complete engine swap with your car, along with ECU, wiring harness, fuel pump, gauges, fuel control and other stuff, or, you could buy a ripp supercharger which has putt an sohc automatic at 243 fwhp which is what vr-4's dyno at. If you do turbo the fwd, be prepared for traction issues though.

Yeah, personally, being that it is a 99, it is going to be a bit more expensive, but the 97-99 base models are 161hp SOHC engines, you are much better getting an SL/pre 97 base, or VR4. It sucks that they don't make them anymore because it means you really have to search and be patient to find a good one, but all of us have managed to do it, so that would be my advice to you. Good luck.

Ya as i've been looking at the specs i dont think the base model is going to fulfill my need for speed But damn i like the looks of the 99's. I'd like to find a 99 SL so if anyone is selling one let me know. But what do you all think about the Base model i found its $12,980 and 39xxx miles on it in PERFECT condition. Is that to good of a deal to pass up or should i try to find a SL or VR4?
