what're the specs on my '91 LS400?
Just bought a '91 LS400, and I don't know much about them. What are the numbers on these cars? HP, torque, 0-60, top speed, etc. Hopefully your beloved yet oh so inferior Lexuses will be able to hold me over until I get my next BMW Thanks for any info you can provide.

Wow, what a coincidence to see your post. I am actually on my second BMW and am thinking HARD about an LS 400 as a second car. PLEASE--tell me how you like it! I have never driven an LS 400 but have heard so much praise about it--smooth, quiet, fast, etc. After losing my Legend (which held ME over after my first Bimmer), I actually MISS having a Japanese car, so I am looking to possess the best of both worlds in the near future. Also, see my other post about gas mileage.
Here are some specs for you: 4.0-liter 32-valve V-8 250 hp @ 5300 rpm 260 lbs.-ft. torque @ 4500 rpm. aluminum alloy block and head Bore/Stroke: 3.44 x 3.25 in. 10.4:1 compression ratio sequential multi-point fuel injection 4-speed automatic, rear wheel drive Original list price: $38,000 Wheelbase, in.: 110.8 Length, in.: 196.7 Width, in.: 72.0 0-60 mph, 8.1 sec. 0-1/4 mi., 16.1 sec. Production numbers: 1990: ? first year for LS 400, and for Lexus 1991: 36,955 1992: 32,561 1993: 23,783 new 16" wheels, pass. air bag, light styling freshening 1994: 22,433 1995: 23,657 full redesign w. updated styling, 260 hp/270 lbs.-ft. 1996: 22,237 1997: ? 1998: 20,790 new wheels, more shapely headlights, 290 hp 1999: 16,357 2000: 15,871 last year before 2001 redesign to become LS 430 Hope this helps--I am a car fanatic, plus I just bought the "Standard Catalog of Imported Cars, 1946-2002". |

I think it is 154 for top speed. I guess I'll have to find out

Road & Track cited an even 150 mph in their early-90s tests of the LS 400 (the Infiniti Q45 was said to top out at 150 also). Does your owner's manual say differently? You're right--I think the only way is to find out first hand.
150 is still very, very good for a sedan. Except for high-performance models that are governed at 155, most more-recent BMWs and Mercedes, etc. are governed at 128-130 mph. Not to mention many more ordinary cars won't even reach 130. My 535i is supposed to go 142. Recently, Bentley claimed that their Arnage T is the fastest production sedan at 168 mph. |
