Vibrating steering wheel
If anyone has information or ideas they will be welcome. My steering wheel vibrates at 75mph to 85mph ONLY turning left in turns on the highway. I have replaced the upper strut hat/mount and ball joint on the drivers side of the car but that made the my steering wheel go from a shake to a vibration, I want to get rid of the vibration....

I just had the tires balanced a month ago. No vibrating during braking, the brakes are new all the way around I replaced the pads right before I took the tires to get balanced.

What about the wheel bearing? Have you checked this out?

I have not checked the bearing. DO you know how I can check it for proper operation?

Check if you need new front shocks.

Re: Vibrating steering wheel
My thoughts...if it were a wheel brg. youd've heard it by now, shocks won't cause a steering wheel vibration [actual cyclic radial oscillations] AND you say there's no vib. while braking which rules out a bent bearing hub flange for the most part....your first repairs caused a change, wasit an improvement?? HOw carefully were the inner and right outer ball joints checked and as 'Skycity BMW' said what is the condition of the arm bushings, these won't usually "cause" a vibration but will wear because of one.

Re: Vibrating steering wheel
funny thing is I had wheel shake a high speeds. I replaced my shocks and its fixed. It can in some cases casue slight vibration of the car/steering wheel and in my case it was. Orcourse my car isnt a bmw and each manufactuer has its own flaws. But most likely it is a control arm bushing because they usually go on BMW's freaquently.
To check them jack the front of the car up, shake the wheel with both hands (place you hands at 9 and 3 and shake) if you feel movemnt then its your bushings. |
