2006 Passat - Starting problems
Hey all,
First time here, hoping someone can offer advice. I bought an '06 Passat last month, it had 27k on it, perfect condition. Two weeks after I bought it, it wouldn't start. I put the fancy key in the dash, everything lit up but nothing happened. I tried for 15 mins, nothing. No cranking, no attempt to start, nothing happened. I took it to a dealership, they replaced the starter, it worked fine for about 5 days. Then, the same problem again. I put the key in, the lights all come on but nothing happens. I had it towed back in, again, and I just got a call saying it's a bad starter! Seriously, what are the odds that this is two bad starters in a row? To me, it sounds like a faulty ignition switch or a wiring issue. Is there anything I can do to get them to investigate further? Thanks. |

Re: 2006 Passat - Starting problems
Where do you live? There is another thread on this topic, and the same scenario was happening to them when it got cold. Like 5-20*, then later after it warmed up, it would start. Issue thought to be the 2 different metals used in the ignition, and when cold, it would not make good contact.
Do you hear a "click" when you try to start it? I think its just a single click they were hearing. Some had luck with just holding the key in the start position for up to 1 minute, then it would sometimes make contact and work. Search the threads below, its not that far down, good luck.... Greg |
