If my parents were both doctors I'd sure as hell expect them to buy me a nice car. And a Celica GT-S wouldn't cut it. I'd demand an M3 and a wrx for a "winter beater"...

Im just talking about the kid; for him to just have totaled a car and just get two new ones in return is insane if you ask me. What kinda lesson do you expect him to learn. The kid doesnt even have a JOB for godsakes! I doubt that kid could fend for himself. It just doesnt teach the kid anything if you ask me. The parents may be smart and successful, I give em' props for that, but they are going about it all wrong IMO. Its just my opinion. I work hard and am very proud of what I've accomplished on my own, that in itself is reward. You can think what you want, Im just stating my opinion.

And that's why this world is full of greedy people. Do you expect everything handed to you? Should the keys to that M3 be handed to you on a silver plate? I don't think so!

Of course the parents may have worked their butts off to get where they are, but once the kid crashes, would you trust him enough to get them 2 brand new replacement cars in case they crash another one up again? A car bought for someone is a privledge, not requirement if the parents are strapped for cash. The kid should be LUCKY his parents bought him a car, let alone a replacement to the one he totalled.

Re: How many of you girls buy your own cars?

If you were the kids parents and made that much money what would you do to "teach him a lesson"? Not buy him a car? Great, now you have to take him to school and pick him up. And working crazy doctor's hours, that would be so convient. The bus? I'm sure it would be easier for them to just buy the kid another car instead of listening to him bitch. They are doctors, they have enough stress.

They probably make over $300,000 a year at least. Two Tiburons aren't going to break the bank. Thats like the average person buying used escort.

And why should the kid have a job? He is in highschool and his parents make enough to pay for anything he wants. Fend for himself? He is only 16, he shouldnt have to. Parents should provide for their kids until they are at least 18.

If my parents could afford a diablo and an esprit, then yes that m3 should be handed to me on a silver plate. How does that make me greedy? Dont you understand $40,000 isn't a big deal to people that make at least 8 times that a year. Do you guys not know any rich people? Theres a guy in Fort Wayne with a few Diablos and he lets his kid in high school take any of them whenever he wants. Big deal. I say if you have money, use it. Buy whatever the fuck you want. His parents want the kid to have nice things. Why is that such a crime?

And who said his parents are strapped for cash? I was talking about this situation, I never said everybody parents should buy their kids cars.

Re: How many of you girls buy your own cars?

Im not saying he should fend for himself NOW! Im saying that life lessons are a key. When he grows up he can be a real man, and take care of himself, not depend on mommy and daddy's income. Have you ever heard of the term "spoiled rotten"... If u take that as a compliment, then hey be my guest... I have pride and self worth. Im just saying that the kid can grow up a better person if he knows the value of a dollar and knows hard work. Im sure his parents worked very hard to be where they are, and Im not saying that the kid should be left without a car, but will he ever feel like he needs to put any sort of effort into anything he does if mommy and daddy keep on doing everything for him. The parents should take care of him ofcourse, but they shouldn't forget that their child will one day grow up and need to be on his own.
I guess you also haven heard of a saying that goes "Its better if I teach you how to fish rather than give you a fish" but again I doubt you even know what that means, and I dont feel like explaining cause you are set up on youre opinions anyways, and I dont feel like wasting my time.

Yah $8000 is a lot for insurance. Mine was considered high when it was $4800 a year for my del slow when I had it. (yah, 3 strikes and a lawsuit aren't the best for a person's driving record lol)

About that kid with 2 cars.... with my driving record I could probably use those lol

i agree that they did need to get him a car, but after crashing a brand knew one, i would think they would get him like a cheep beater car... not all rich people are spoiled... to me, spoiled is the way someone looks at the value of certain things.. if they just buy him brand knew cars, then how do u think he looks at the value of things? they are poisoning his mind IMO...

Re: How many of you girls buy your own cars?

when a parrent buys their kid an expensive car (over 10k) as a first car then i can make 2 conclusions from this. One--the kid has really proven himself as a student or has worked their ass off in some other way and he NEEDS the car to get to college and work, for example.
2--The parrents are 2 involved in their own lives to care about their kids. They buy love and spoil their kids rotten as someone said earlier. If a parent cared about their kid they would at least let that person learn on some piece of shit for a few years to build some driving experience. There is no reason to buy a high performance car for a novice that cant drive it. WHich brings me to another point--16-18 year olds whose parents buy them performance cars that are later crashed ruin it for all of the drivers who need a car for whatever reason and have to pay 8k a year insurance when they can afford a 5k car.
I dont consider myself well off although my parents are. Im working through college and living off my own steam. I dont think that rich people who buy their kids $$$$ cars are stupid people, otherwise couldnt have made their money. For example Trump, one of the richest ppl on the planet doesnt spoil his kids one bit and they will be as sucessful as he is. His daughter is an ivy league student and she is doing damn well. Donald never intended for his kids to cruise off his money.
If ive offended some 15 year old piece of sh!t who thinks they should be driving an M3--

Yup, I bought my own car and I've paid for everything I've put on it as well. My mom wouldnt dare help me with my expenses and I dont care because it's taught me to be more responsible! I couldnt afford car insurance for the first month after I bought my car....but soon after I got my paycheck and purchased insurance! It's really not that hard! And it's not just girls who get their mommies and dadies to pay for their nice cars....I have a whole clan of spoiled neighbors (all 17 yr old boys) who get nice $40k cars....then they crash it and mommy and daddy buy them another!

Re: How many of you girls buy your own cars?

Most parents want to delay their kids buying their own cars because its another means of keeping their kids home and out of harms way. If i told my parents that i wanted to spend money to make my car faster they'd think i was nuts

mine have been ALL mine. my first car was a 93 ford ranger. $2500. ive been working since i was 14 to save. the week after i got the truck it already needed work. my dad owns a paint and body shop and he knows alot of the mechanical stuff. but any time i needed work on my truck he STILL made me pay for it. im not spoilled by any means. finally i decided to sell the truck and i bought an 86 crx si. that cost 2000. which a week later i found was not worth it. but i had already spent the money so i figured do what it takes. so i worked my butt off to become a manager at my work to make metter money so i could get it all fixed. with in 2 months ive put another 2000 into the car. i also did most of the work on it myself. there are thoes girls that couldnt change a tire to save their lives. they are too afraid to get dirty or that they will break a nail. hello we all have fake nails now thanks to acrilyc, break the stupid thing to have the satisfaction of being able to do something on your own and get the stupid nail fixed. im proud to say that all the sweat tears and pain that has gone into the car has been my own.
