Pinging in my engine

I have 129,000 miles on my 05 ram 1500 (5.7 hemi) and it's been pinging for about the last 25,000 miles. It recently started getting worse especially when i accelerate. I've been using 5-30W instead of the recommended 5-20 oil and 87 instead of 89 octane gas.

I just flushed out my engine and tranny with amsoil and started using 91 octane but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I like to do all my own work but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any advise will be appreciated.

No. It all sounds and feels good except the pinging which mainly happens when I start it then quite's down, then returns when I punch it

Re: Pinging in my engine

Sounds like an excessive carbon build-up issue doesn't it.
You might try adding an additive that cleans combustion carbon and residues.
The counter guy at your favorite chain type auto parts store can recommend something with positive customer feedback.
