Automatic to 5 speed
I have a 96 LSI it has a 1.3 automatic. I am wondering how hard it would be to put a 5speed in it. Wondering about things like are the axles the same. will the shifter bolt in things like that.

Re: Automatic to 5 speed
Here are some things to consider about the swap:
1) You would need to completely replace the current shifter and linkage. 2) Motor / Tranny mounts are probably different. 3) Not sure if a different ECM would need to be installed / wired. ( I know the ECM for 89 - 94 models are A/T M/T dependent ). 4) Not sure but there probably is current wiring for the A/T that you would not need for the 5 speed. 5) Would need to get the complete clutch pedal assembly, cable and hardware and install a clutch pedal. Chances are this means running the shift cable through the firewall. Not sure if it goes in the same place as the A/T cable currently there. 6) Would need to replace the axles, they are different for M/T vs. A/T. |
