vtec engine??
Ok i bought a 1991 integra ls. they come stock with a b18 motor. i later found out that the previous owner had replaced the whole engine with another b18 and it sounds and feels like i am hitting a vtec when i race. how do i tell if it is a vtec motor or not??

Re: vtec engine??
Does the valve cover say VTEC on it? Check the engine code and see what it says (b18a, b18b, b18c1).

Re: vtec engine??
On the front of the block, where the block meets the transmission, there is a flat plate with the code on it.

Re: vtec engine??
Then check the engine code on the front of the block to be sure.

No it didn't have a solenoid on it so it must be a non-vtech, but if i wanted to add one, would it be a pain in the ass? and would it be costly, and what are some of the downfalls if i can install it. also keep in mind that im doing a complete bulid up new ecu, tranny, block, etc.

Re: vtec engine??
Great, another noob who feels the need to have more than 1 user name.
Do a search, it's been covered countless times. Hell, even do a Google search and you'll find all the info. And you can't just add a vtec solenoid to a non-vtec block, it doesn't work like that. |
